Volker Mueller - Bentley

Volker Mueller recently joined Bentley Systems as Research Director for Computational Design.  Focus of his position is to identify and pursue opportunities for innovation in collaboration with researchers and innovators in academia and practice.  His desire is to find technology solutions for the emerging challenges of forward-looking, ever-evolving design practices.  He has explored GenerativeComponents’ capabilities by conducting hypothetical investigations as well as through project related opportunities like rationalization of design surfaces into constructible systems.

Prior to joining Bentley Systems, Volker has been NBBJ’s Design Technology Manager from 1998 to January 2008. Focus of his position was the development and implementation of NBBJ’s design technology strategy.  Before working for NBBJ, Volker contributed for five years as software developer to a 3D modeling package and transitioned for two years design professionals from manual to digital practice. He earned a Dipl.-Ing. der Architektur degree from the Technische Universität Berlin in 1988, and as a Fulbright Scholar a Master of Architecture degree from the Ohio State University in 1991.  Starting as an OSU Graduate Associate and then throughout his postgraduate and professional experience Volker has taught Computer Aided Architectural Design, use of CAD software, 3D modeling systems, object based design techniques as well as BIM-based integrated project delivery, and has been a frequent tutor at GenerativeComponents workshops.
